It's truly unbelievable how ignorant and childish people can behave, those who choose to belittle others over insignificant things that are truly none of their business! The viewer you use is your choice, and has absolutely no impact on anyone else whatsoever. I tend to jump between the official LL viewer, Phoenix, and Kirstens, depending on my mood of the day, though after "Emeraldgate" I pretty much stuck with the official LL viewer for a long time, and I still don't fully trust the third party viewers now, though I am giving them a second chance.

Each of the various viewers have their ups and downs too. One release of the official LL viewer might be super stable, and then the next buggy as all getout. The same goes for Phoenix, Kirstens, and other builds. I've found Phoenix to actually be the worst for this, but as with everything, each person's experience may be different.

I believe LL finally caught on to shadows in their latest viewer release, closing the gap between Kirstens and official for the enthusiastic screenshot artists, though Kirstens still has more fine-grained controls that are still lacking on the official viewer.

Bottom line is... if the proper channels worked people would use them. LL's billing department is a nightmare right now and one of the reasons Rod is on Twitter is he wants to find out what kind of problems people are having.

Agreed.

I think its wonderful that Rod has been communicating on Twitter, but I also think he needs to be a little bit careful of setting a precedent.

The Elf Clan land issue was an nasty one, and it's great that it got sorted out. However, there is the danger that it has sent out the message that a complaint to Rod on Twitter will get a person the result they want. This of course won't (and shouldn't!) always be the case.

I've actual seen Rod acknowledge of couple of complaints that are false. Ok, he's done nothing more than acknowledge them and I'm sure he's realised after further investigation that they are false, but I do think he needs to be a wee bit careful of making a rod for his own back here (excuse the pun!)

What Rod should be able to do is to promise such Twitter complaints that if they raise their issue through the appropriate channels (e.g. support ticket) it will be dealt with swiftly and reasonably. Get these appropriate channels working at their best and there shouldn't even be a need for people to approach Rod direct.

This wasn't just a random issue that somebody had. It was a grotesque failure of customer service - to prevent a customer from paying their bill, ignore them when they tried to pay it and then try to terminate their service for non-payment. If it happens to one customer it could happen to any customer.

@rodvik does follow me. the few times that i have addressed him directly, he has responded quickly and attentively. if indeed he receives a lot of spam, i would suspect he has some kind of filtering in place.

I really hope someone at the Lab reads all Twitter mentions Rod gets and filters out the good ones, so that Rod only reads the selection.

More than once I looked on Twitter for "@rodvik", which shows all mentions of Rod, which appear in his Mentions tab. Most of them were unpolite, rude, non-constructive bashing of Linden Lab. I really hope LL's CEO doesn't waste his time by reading that stuff.
